Due to our charter business, many of our sailing adventures have been while fulfilling other people's sailing dreams.  We have done a few personal trips like  several weeks sailing the USVI and BVI.  In 2005, we traded time on Smoke and Roses for time on a Lagoon 47 in which we sailed the Aegean Sea to many of the Greek Islands over 10 days. A few years later we spent a week on a Fountaine Pajot sailing the barrier reefs of Belize.  We had quite an adventure while bringing the boat home to South West Florida from the BVI, over 1200 NM.  We have sailed the entire coast of SW Florida from Tampa to Key west, including The Bone Island Regatta, a race from Sarasota to Key West, where we took 2nd.  Then in 2015 we took a month long trip to the Bahamas.   But now we are looking to explore the world with World ARC.
Our life's motto has always been "work hard play hard."
After having a job for the last 45 years or so it will be great just to have only boat maintenance to do.  Seriously besides the obvious things like seeing new places and meeting new people, we are looking forward to the challenge as well as helping other sailors. The many firsts we will experience.  The first time crossing the panama canal, the first time crossing the pacific,  the first time crossing the equator, seeing whales up close, being nature lovers seeing all of the species we can't see here, crossing the India ocean and then Africa!, the international date line and finally the finish.  Knowing that we have done what few would even attempt, make a circumnavigation.

The Chamber provides tangible benefits to its members though its many networking and marketing opportunities. Additionally, each year, in addition to hosting the Christmas Parade in downtown Punta Gorda, the Chamber conducts the “Hottest Business Day In Paradise” Business Expo that enables its members to meet and greet the public in a forum dedicated to providing information about their business to attendees and participants alike.
It is inherent upon the Chamber to sustain membership growth and retention. Towards this effort, the Chamber offers an “Ambassador” designation to those individuals who go the extra mile in working towards that goal. As we embark on our journey, we are extremely proud to announce that the Charlotte County Chamber has named us “World Ambassadors!” I guess traveling 30,000 miles qualifies us for going the extra mile.
As we travel around the globe, we will be spreading the word to those we meet about our little corner of paradise in Charlotte County and the efforts of the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce to make our community the best place to live, work and visit.
On behalf of Dan and me, we say “Thank You” for this honor.

For several years Smoke and Roses has been a member of the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce. They were invaluable to us when we launched our venture and continue to be today as we prepare for our adventure. Let me highlight a few things about the Chamber…
Located in Southwest Florida between the cities of Sarasota and Ft. Myers, the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce has been serving its business members and the community since 1924. Accredited by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce it has a 4 Star Rating, one of the very few in SW Florida to have achieved that level of excellence. The Chamber is organized to advance the prosperity and general welfare of its business members and the community.
The Chamber is THE influential voice of the Charlotte County business community and plays an essential role in furthering the business climate in the county. It actively provides leadership programs for its members that will enable them to enhance the quality of life in Charlotte County and beyond.
